Yesterday along with AdSense feedback I submitted the following idea/suggestion. Hopefully somebody will pay attention.
Separate AD Screens
Webmasters tend to merge AdSense Ads with their content to make Ads look like content links tricking visitors to click on them. Even on some quality websites sometimes AdSense Ads are so disguised in the content that the reader have to pay extra attention to not accidentally click on them. Because of its scale this problem becomes increasingly annoying and it is not in Google’s interest to encourage this behaviour. For these fake clicks eventually pay the AdWords advertisers by getting lower conversion rates.
The idea is to separate Ads from the content introducing separate Ad pages inserted between content pages. These Ad pages must have some specific characteristics. They must be bigger to occupy a whole webpage and they must have a small time delay to prevent users of skipping them. Animated, video or image Ads will be more suitable for this type of pages, however text Ads also could be shown. Google AdSense uses printed media type Ads, what I’m suggesting is more TV, movie style approach.
I hope that Google AdSense will offer this AD format along with its existing Ad options. For some websites this scheme will work perfectly well. I’ve tried to implement this idea at www.free-motorcycle-manuals.com, using the biggest available Ad format and writing a small java code for delays.
